Naupada Salt Farms


Naupada is a village located in Santha Bommali mandal of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Naupada is famous for salt fields hence it's called as "Salt Bowl of Andhra Pradesh".

It is famously known for its railway station. In the year 1889 Maharaja of Paralakhemundi "Sri Krishna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deb" constructed narrow gauge railway route  with Rs.99 lakhs. It's known as Parlakimidi Light Railway.

Naupada Salt Fields located beside Garibula Gedda river flowing into the sea. More than 500 producers are making 56,000 tonnes of salt in 3,000+ acres per year.

Due to reduced prices and lack of support from government these farms are converting into ponds for various types of aquaculture.
